Eight-a-side, ages 11 to 16, teams from six churches across the city. Register as a team or turn up alone and we will find you one. Bring shin pads; the referees are volunteers and their patience is finite.

We read the names of everyone in this church who died this year, and light a candle for each. If you have someone you would like named, tell the office by the Wednesday before. This service is open to anyone grieving, whether you belong here or not.

Every Saturday morning, no questions asked and no forms to fill in. Fresh produce, tinned goods, nappies and toiletries. If you can carry more than you need, take it to a neighbour.

A day of silence with three short addresses, kept properly — phones off and left in a basket at the door. Lunch is taken without speaking, which is stranger and better than it sounds. Thirty-five places only.

Forty stalls run by people in the church and the neighbourhood, mulled wine from noon, and a brass band at two. Everything raised goes to the night shelter. Free to come in; bring cash for the stalls.

Ages 4 to 11. Making, painting, far too much glitter, and a short nativity at the end that nobody rehearses. Parents can stay or go — there is coffee if you stay.

Nine lessons and a great many carols, by candlelight, with the choir and anyone else who wants to sing. Mince pies afterwards. Wrap up — the hall is old and the heating is a matter of opinion.

We see the year out together, as we have every year since this church began. Singing, testimony, and the last hour in prayer. It finishes when it finishes, usually a little before one.
